Living With Arthritis
Many people struggle with
the aches and pains of arthritis. Come join us to learn more about the
different types of arthritis, as well as action steps to take at home to
make daily living more comfortable. We’ll discuss beneficial joint
supplements, heating methods, and ideas for a less inflammatory diet.

AdaptABLE Home
Learn to live in your home successfully, happily
engaged in the community or as long as you want to. Attend this presentation
by Jennifer DeRosa, Occupational Therapist, and learn strategies that enable

Standing Strong: Prevent & Treat
Osteoporosis
Join Dr. Cantini from
Northwest Hospital to learn risk factors for osteoporosis, how to stay
strong through prevention, take charge through diagnosis, and fight back
through treatment. This presentation will help you become your own health

Protect Your Body
You only get one body,
and it has to last a lifetime! In this series, Michelle Anderson, DC, will
teach you to better protect your body from injury as you go about daily
tasks, like lifting bags of groceries, getting in/out of chairs, and keeping
posture tip-top. If you can’t make both presentations, feel free to join us

Movement & Rhythm
Come join other women exploring movement, rhythm,
and range of motion in a fun class that assists balance, coordination and
stress reduction. Using music and movement from Southeast Asia, Hawaii,
jazz, and funk influences, we will explore structured and improvisational
movement and dance. Outcomes: fun, increased energy, and a more positive

Matters programming is made possible by a grant from the Norcliffe
Foundation and sponsorship support from
Northgate Plaza, a Merrill Gardens Community and Merrill Gardens at
Northgate.
POSIT Demos
The GSC is very excited to be one of the
first senior centers in the country to have the POSIT Science Brain Fitness
Program available for the community. This revolutionary program features a
variety of simple auditory-based computerized exercises designed to improve
cognitive function. Want to check out this new brain health program in the
computer lab and see if it’s right for you? Call the GSC and ask for Liz -
she’ll set up an appointment for you to come and meet with one of the
coaches and see if this program meets your needs (Call (206) 297-0875 and
set up an appointment with Liz. The demo is free; there is a fee if you
decide to participate in the program.)
CanCan: A Game of Color and
Creation
2nd & 4th Thursday of each month, 1-3 pm, $1 suggested donation
This brand new game, invented by local artist Ditto Nowakoski, is a
challenging right brain exercise and great for overall brain health. Come by
to learn how to play this entertaining and creative game of colors and
shapes. Learning to think in color is challenging for many people, but
CanCan is instructional as well as fun, and players learn about color
without even thinking about it. Please register ahead of time due to limited
space.

Carin's Special Offerings
Compassion
Carin Mack, MSW, will help us learn the meaning of
compassion and practices to increase compassionate behavior in your
relationships. Additionally, discover the core practices of Compassionate
Listening, which teaches powerful skills for peacemaking in our families and
communities.
*Special Guest Andrea Cohen, a trained facilitator
in Compassionate Listening will join the second session.

L.A.U.G.H.S.: Living Life to the Fullest
Learn about how occupational therapy services can
enable you to live your best life. Occupational therapists believe that what
gives shape to our life is the ability to willfully participate in
personally meaningful tasks. Due to aging or disability, people may not know
how to adapt and resume the daily activities they used to enjoy. Attend this
presentation to learn the secret of L.A.U.G.H.S so that you too may adapt to
and enjoy everyday living. We will also explore resources and strategies to
use these adaptations in your relationships with friends, family members,
and within the community. Carin Mack, MSW and Jennifer DeRosa, OTR/L will
co-facilitate this series.
