Film Series: Positive Images Of Aging

1st Fridays, Jan. 6, Feb. 3 & Mar. 2, 1-3:30 pm. Free.
Join us at the Greenwood Senior Center for our special monthly film offerings. Laugh and interact with others while enjoying some entertainment, interesting discussions and tasty snacks. Volunteer At Greenwood Food Bank for MLK Day

Friday, Jan 20, 1-3 pm. Free. Greenwood Food Bank, 9041 Greenwood Avenue N. Come help out behind the scenes at the Food Bank by sorting and bagging food donations. This is a fun, hands-on project to do with friends! Meet at the GSC at 12:45 pm to walk there together, or meet us at the Food Bank at 1 pm. This program is in honor of the Martin Luther King Day of Service and celebrates the power we all have to make a positive difference in our communities. To register, call 206.297.0875.

Memoirs NW: Tell Your Story

Sit down with filmmakers and share a moment in your life where everything changed - going to college or war, the birth of a child, your first love. Bring photographs, letters and other mementos to create MicroHistories on DVD. Memoirs Northwest will interview you and create a mini-documentary about your story. Coping With The Loss Of A Beloved Pet

Come learn about the human-pet bond and how it affects our grief journey. Learn how rituals and memorial activities, supportive counseling and/or pet loss support groups can help us to cope after the loss of a beloved pet. Bingo/Karaoke Nights

Last Friday, Jan. 27, Feb. 24 & Mar. 30, 7-10 pm.
Join us for an exciting evening of bingo, karaoke and good times for folks age 21 and older. Reserve your spot online on our homepage. This sells out quickly; note that reservations begin the Monday after the previous event.

Sound Steps Spring Training for Walkers

Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1-3 pm. Free.
This is your year to get in shape! Train with Sound Steps for a 5 km, 10 km or Half Marathon walk goal. Beginner or experienced walkers welcome. Saturday morning training walks take place from February through June. Call Mari at 206-684-4664 to RSVP for an information session.

AARP Tax Help at GSC

Tuesdays & Thursdays, Feb. 2 - Apr. 10, 9 am-3 pm. Free. The AARP tax preparers will return to the GSC this winter. Once you have compiled all the necessary paperwork for your return, please call Liz Farr at 206.297.0875 to make a reservation.

Valentine’s Day Luncheon with Cornucopia Band!

Art Reception at the PNA

The Phinney Center Gallery supports local emerging artists. Come check out the Gallery’s opening night reception, which will include opportunities to meet the artists and enjoy beverages and snacks. This is a great chance to meet new people and see some unique artwork from artists in our community. Also, we will have information there about the PNA Village, a new Aging-in-Place program geared towards empowering people to remain in their homes and neighborhoods while staying active and engaged as they age. Valentine’s Spaghetti Dinner with the G-Notes!

Friday, Feb. 17, 4:30-6:30 pm, (ENTERTAINMENT BEGINS AT 5:15 PM). $5/dinner, $2/pie, family discounts available.  Bring your family and friends for this delightful Valentine’s dinner with live music from the G-Notes. Baking and Board Games at Aurora Commons

Wednesday, Mar. 7, 10-11:30 am. Free. Aurora Commons, 8914 Aurora Ave. Come join us for a fun, cozy morning of baking at the Aurora Commons! This is an opportunity to connect our Aurora and Greenwood neighbors and make something delicious together. While things are in the oven, there will be board games to play, coffee or tea to drink and then we’ll enjoy some freshly baked treats together. The Aurora Commons provides a safe place of hospitality along Aurora Avenue where we seek to grow the relational capacity within our neighborhood so that, as we care for one another, we may share space, resources and the fullness of life. GSC Daily Lunch Program

Monday-Friday, Noon. $4-6. Hearty meals are prepared by GSC volunteer chefs with seasonal ingredients. Meal includes a salad, main entree and dessert. We have great variety, from soup and sandwich combos to classic meat and potatoes. Lunch sign-up is required by 10:30 am. Call to find out the menu for the day.

Trips and Outings

Snoqualmie Casino

3rd Tuesday of each month, 8:15 am. $5/members, $7.50/public.
Travel by bus to the Snoqualmie Casino for a day of recreation and good company. Bus leaves from behind the Greenwood Market (on 3rd Ave NW at the junction with 85th St) at 8:30 am. Please do not park in front of the store. Spots fill up fast – sign up today! Reserve your space by calling the GSC at 206.297.0875.

Seattle Parks & Recreation's Lifelong Recreation Partnership

The Greenwood Senior Center is collaborating with Seattle Parks and Recreation’s Lifelong Recreation on some exciting programming. Space is limited for each event. Call 206.297.0875 to reserve your space. Look for new events coming soon in 2012.
